Dubai-Bound Air India Express Plane Hits Wall At Runway, Emergency Lands In Mumbai With Serious Damage
Tiruchirappalli: An Air India Express Boeing 737-800 hit the poles at the end of the runway before ramming the perimeter wall and then still managed to fly from the Trichy airport and all these events happened while the plane was at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
It was a miraculous escape for all the 136 passengers and crew onboard Air India Flight IX 611 without any kind of injury, which was bound for Dubai. But images of the jet taken after its landing in Mumbai show severe damage to the structure.
A large cut along the belly side of the airliner and several perforations on the engine nacelles and other parts of the fuselage implies that all the passengers onboard the jetliner had escaped in a very miraculous way.
As per the statement made by Air India Express, ”after flight IX 611 from Trichy to Dubai had taken off from Trichy at about 1.30am today, it was reported by local Airport officials at Trichy, that they have observed that [the] aircraft might have come in contact with the airport perimeter wall.”
Pictures of the perimeter wall which was built using red bricks display a large chunk of it missing due to the airliner’s undercarriage hit that part.
Despite the fact that the pilot on duty ”reported that the aircraft systems were operating normally,” but a was decision taken to divert the jet to Mumbai as a ”precautionary measure.”
So the total time aircraft was in air after the incident was about 4 hours.
Captain D Ganesh Babu was the pilot in command for the Boeing jet and also the First Officer, Captain Anurag have been taken off from the pilot roster of Air India Express due to a pending investigation into the serious incident.
Back in May 2010, an Air India Express Boeing 737-800 coming from Dubai with a total of 166 people onboard, went further on the runway after landing at the Mangalore airport resulting in the killing of 158 people.
Air India and Jet Airways have been in the news for the past few months with the Jet Airways flight being reported of not maintaining cabin pressure properly on board after the flight took off from Mumbai. Due to this many passengers experienced nose bleeding and some of them were suffering from temporary deafness. The main reason was that the cabin crew forgot to switch on the cabin pressure controller.
