Endangered Turtle Came To Lay Eggs On A Beach In Maldives And Discover’s That It Has Been Turned Into A Runway

Recently, a picture that surfed the internet caused outrage amongst people who saw as it showed an endangered turtle in Maldives that returned to its nesting beach and finds out the it had been turned into a runway.

The picture showed the turtle laying eggs on the tarmac.

Sea turtles are known to return to the exact beach they were hatched at to lay their eggs, which means that there could be more turtles on their way.

An official from the Maafaru Island Council said, “Despite the construction of the runway, the frequency with which turtles visit the island for nesting purposes has not decreased.”

The runway is still under construction and is yet to cover more stretches of the beach. A resort and a hotel are also set to open on the beach, which is really bad for the turtles.

Developers completed the Maafaru Airport in August last year, but there are plans for buildings to be constructed in the area.

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development which is based in UAE funded the runway, which is capable of accommodating 6 jets, the runway is 7200ft long.

Sources said that the sea turtle could have spent years traveling back to the beach just to lay her eggs.

She was released into the sea and was reportedly in a good health condition.
