Heavy Rains And Winds Claim 7 Lives In Rajasthan, Farmers Face Crop Loses
New Delhi: Due to the heavy rains lashing in Rajasthan state, the districts of Dholpur and Bharatpur had reported deaths of at least twelve people. While not less than seven died in Dholpur’s Badead area itself, other five death reports were received from Bharatpur, a news agency said.
Most of the death reports from Dholpur were due to roofs and walls of houses collapsing in at least six villages. There were also reports of fire due to short circuits in seven houses where there were four reports of death. Many main streets were also waterlogged in Dholpur and train traffic also got affected on the Agra-Dholpur line.
The Northwestern India had experienced heavy rains on Wednesday along with some reports of isolated places also experiencing the same situation with strong wind speed and storms. Heavy and thunderstorms had uprooted trees in many of the localities in Delhi.
The states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed thundershowers in the last two days. The meteorological office said that it will the present weather conditions will continue until April 15.
Maximum temperatures may not exceed 37 degrees Celsius in the next week, says the IMD.
Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have seen massive damage to the ripe wheat and other rabi crops which were ready to be harvested. Rajasthan farmers complain of harvest delay by a week due to the unfavorable conditions.
Farmers are protesting the losses incurred due to heavy rains to their crops and today many of them blocked the Mathura Expressway. “There is nothing left now, more than 80 per cent of the crop has been destroyed,” say farmers.
Next four to five days will also see same conditions with the expectation of heavy rain and high winds in the northeastern states of West Bengal, Assam and eastern Bihar said the IMD, the Nor’westers season sets in before the monsoon.
