High Jack movie review:
A DJ (male lead), who promises to save his father’s dispensary from neediness by playing at a New Year’s gig in Goa. He finds out that his plans have gone crooked because he has been tricked. The party turns out to be a trick and he is left trapped in Goa without money. During a night of intoxication, he agrees to carry drugs with him on his flight back in a swap over for money. To free himself of tenseness he takes the drugs while on the flight. A hijack of the aircraft by the airline’s employees ensue with Vinit (Mantra) bearing the task. in spite of its little running time, the film feels like a drag as it doesn’t seem to know where it is headed. The way linking a middle-aged man, a Pakistan hater, who continuously bickers with his wife, who eyes the DJ unabashedly, seems forced. A few smart one-liners feature in the film and the worst of the lot is the one concerning a ‘knock knock’ joke.
The Director Akarsh Khurana clearly put out to create a spoof on political and social issues, but his film’s description would never hit the bull’s eye. Neither does the film manage to be a humorous dark comedy nor a bright and pointed satire. Sumeet Vyas, who has displayed comic chops in his earlier career, is capable but doesn’t have enough performance this time to do justice to his role. Mantra as the leader of the hijackers has a imperfect range of expressions. Kumud Mishra is straddled with a clichéd role. The film’s music by a group of musicians, including Nucleya, manages to hit the right notes though. ‘High Jack’ parades itself as a stoner comedy but after viewing it, you would be wondering if you need to be high to enjoy this cock-and-bull story.
