A Homemaker Saves Injured Jawan’s Life Where Other Soldiers Watch Helplessly

A homemaker saved the life of the Jawan who had lost his footing and plunged into a 50-foot-deep while trying to escape a pack of stray dogs where remaining soldiers watching helplessly. The incident took place in Kotkhai area Shimla on 20th August.

At Jutogh Cantt, a group of Assam Rifles men training encountered a hostile canine tribe at Banuti area which is around 12 km from Shimla. Scared by the sight of the speedily approaching dogs, one of the soldiers, Mukesh Kumar, fell into a pit while escaping from them. While he was fleeing his head hit a stone rendering him unconscious. Seeing him static, his colleagues began calling out for help.

Veena Sharma, 42, rushed the spot on hearing their cries for help. She had not wasted time in trying to revive him by performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. However, other soldier mates stood thinking him to be dead.

She said that “Finding no other way to shift the injured man, I called my 72-year-old father Ramesh Sharma, who rarely drives these days, to bring the car. Since none of the soldiers knew how to drive, it was left to my father to transport the injured soldier to Jutogh military hospital”. Later, the soldier referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, where timely specialized treatment saved his life.
