Hundreds of Indian students may face jail or deportation in US college scam

8 Indian men were arrested after enrolling hundreds of students in a fake university that was being run by US agents who were undercover. The students from India may face criminal charges or deportation. This sting operation was done so that US agents can stop agencies who misuse the student visas to help foreigners stay and work in the USA even if they are unqualified.

The announcement was done by the justice department of Michigan, 8 Indian men are charged with harboring aliens for profit and visa fraud.

The 8 people were named as Barath Kakireddy of Florida, Suresh Kandala of Virginia, Phanideep Karnati of Kentucky, Prem Rampeesa of North Carolina, Santosh Sama of California, Avinash Thakkallapally of Pennsylvania,  Aswanth Nune of Georgia, and Naveen Prathipati of Texas.

Around 200 students are currently apprehended, but the total numbers of students enrolled are around 600. All of the 600 can be named in the deportation list, others could be serving time inside the jail.

Raids were carried out in Ohio, Texas, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, and Georgia. The 8 people helped unqualified students stay in the USA by using fake documents.

The undercover agencies used the University of Farmington as their bait, the university had no classes, curriculum, or staff. The recruiters did not know that this university was fake, most of the enrolled students were Indians. The majority of the students that were enrolled in the university have been arrested.

The agencies asked for thousands of dollars by using the name of the fake university while they were recruiting students, the officials obtained I-20 certificates that were making false statements.

The officials from the USA know that all the students knew that they were staying illegally in the USA.
