IGNOU New Vice Chancellor: Last year (on 25th July 2018) after President of India (Ram Nath Kovind) became new Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), here’s another related update. Replacing Mr Ravindra Kumar, who was Vice-chancellor of world’s largest open university since 28 April 2016, Prof Nageshwar Rao has taken a charge of New Delhi Office (of IGNOU regional centre today).

Following this, the official website is also updated with this latest news. “Prof Nageshwar Rao will become new vice chancellor of IGNOU after three years,” this news first appeared publicly on July 21, 2018, when the previous governor of Bihar and 14th and current President of India, in office since 25 July 2017 approved professor Rao as a new VC. Reports suggest, to focus more and more on quality, this action was mandatory.

A brief history of Prof Nageshwar Rao’s academic and administrative career –

• From July 1978 to February 1985: Lecturer in Department of Commerce & Business Administration, University of Allahabad.
• From February 1985 to October 1990: Reader in Faculty of Management Studies at the Banaras Hindu University.
• At Vikram university Ujjain: Dean, Faculty of Management Studies for five terms; Dean, Faculty of Information Technology for one term and Chairman, Board of Studies in Management for four terms. Thus, holding professor post (director of the institute) for 13 years (From October 1990 to December 2013) in Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Business Management (JNIBM), Ujjain.
• From 1st Nov 2016 to 1st April 2017: Vice-Chancellor of Kumanyu University Nainital.
• From August 2008 to August 2011: Vice-Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad.
• Just before becoming VC of IGNOU: Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Open University (UOU).

On his appointment as Vice Chancellor of a distance education university enrolling millions of students, Professor Rao said it was like coming back home as he has been acting VC and as Pro-VC earlier.

Addressing how the only focus of new VC will escalate quality standards of IGNOU, Professor Nageshwar Roa said “Our committee will submit accreditation criteria soon. By the end of this year, the accreditation of distance-learning institutions can be started.
