Passengers can soon tune into popular FM radio stations and enjoy games and TV shows while travelling on trains, with the Indian Railway firming up plans to roll out a Rail Radio service for onboard infotainment.

According to the latest reports, Indian Railways is all set to introduce Rail Radio and infotainment options for its passengers and those waiting on rail platforms.

Yes, with your smartphone or laptop, you can now have a blast while travelling on Indian trains. In the latest addition to the already remarkable railway service, Indian Railways plans to introduce on-board facilities to entertain all the passengers.

Not just passengers but even those waiting on the railway platform will now be able to listen to a brand new Rail-Radio.

There are many products available under this umbrella of infotainment – movies, television shows, music, sports, kids shows, spirituality, games, governance, news, fashion and lifestyle along with news, online books and magazines.

The aforementioned products will be categorised in three parts: free, nominal and premium.

“Several companies like Saregama India Ltd, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, Moving Talkies and Zee Entertainment have already shown interests for the project on Infotainment, while Radio Mirchi and Fever 104 are interested in Rail Radio project,” a senior railway ministry official said, requesting anonymity.

This is being done in a move to offer additional services to the passengers on their long journeys. Indian Railways also wishes to make a profit out of this, since the market is big.

He added that move will serve to entertain passengers and also earn revenue for Indian Railways.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is quite keen on increasing the services on Railway and making the journey more enjoyable and comfortable for passengers.
