Jio Increases Its Subscriber Base By 11.796 Million In July, Leaving Its Rivals Far Behind: TRAI
As per a report by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio bagged the biggest number of subscribers in July this year. The data represented in the form of a monthly growth rate of 0.89 percent for Jio, gaining a total of 11.79 million new subscribers. When this data is compared to rival telecom operations against Jio, the operator of Mukesh Ambani has got more than 10 times new subscribers in terms of Vodafone and Airtel and BSNL subscribers having a net user increase of 1.14 million. At the end of the month of July, the entire industry’s telephone number subscribers went up to 1,179.32 million in the month of June from previous 1,168.89 million. As regard to the total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA, and LTE) increased from 1,146.49 million at the end of June to 1,157.04 million at the end of July, resulting in the registrations of a monthly growth rate of about 0.92 percent.
In July, Jio got the significant number of new subscribers in the wireless category due to the Jio Monsoon Hungama offer. Having got a total 11.796 million new subscribers in the month of July, it was able to get 19.62 percent of the market, going further ahead of Vodafone and Idea with respect to the total market share.
As per the details are given above, the rival telecom operators against Jio performed fairly in the month of July as Vodafone came in second place at 0.609 million subscriber additions and a total market share decrease from 19.43 percent in the month of June to 19.30 percent in July. As for Airtel, it got a total of 0.313 million subscribers in the month of July, after it performed well in May as it was merged with Telenor. Despite the competition, the company still has the highest market share of about 29.81 percent, but now this is also on the decline as per the reports of the June market share, which was at 30.05 percent.
The state-owned BSNL managed to get more subscribers when compared to Idea having 0.225 million additions, that is, 9.80 percent of the market share. The subscriber additions of Idea were very low for the first time with just 5,489 subscriber addition on the records for the month of July. Idea presently has a market share of 19.07 percent. One thing to note is that the sum of the all additions of various companies of Vodafone, Airtel, BSNL and Idea if combined, totals to only 1.757 million, which is much less than what Reliance Jio has got in the same month.
