Justice Gogoi Named As Future CJI Of Supreme Court In Recommendation Letter By Dipak Misra

New Delhi: In his letter of recommendation to the government, Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra, suggested Justice Ranjan Gogoi as his successor as he is about to retire after a month. After his retirement, Justice Gogoi is expected to take the seat of Chief Justice of India. Mr. Gogoi is the senior-most judge in the Supreme Court.

He will be the first Supreme Court judge from the north-eastern states to be made Chief Justice of India.

Chief Justice Mishra is slated to retire a day before with the fact that October 2 is a holiday, hence October 1 will be the last working day for him.

The recommendation made by Chief Justice Mishra is in line with the tradition to name the senior most judge for the top post in Indian Judicial system. The Law Ministry had asked the Chief Justice to recommend his successor after a convention.

Justice Gogoi will be able to serve as the Chief Justice of India till November 17, 2019, and then he will also retire from the post. He is expected to be administrated the oath of office for the top post in Supreme Court by the President Ram Nath Kovind.

Justice Gogoi was one among those four judges who had in January, criticized Chief Justice Misra in a rare press conference and accused that the way in which Chief Justice Mishra was handling cases raises questions. As of now, the case under Chief Justice Mishra is the Assam National Register of Citizens or NRC case.

Justice Gogoi is known to be a very soft-spoken in communication but tough as a judging person. He was elevated to the Supreme Court in the year 2012.

Justice Gogoi was born in the year 1954 in the state of Assam. He joined the Bar in the year 1978. After that, he was appointed Permanent Judge of Gauhati High Court on February 28, 2001. And then he was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in September 2010 and was made the Chief Justice of the High Court in February 2011.

The Chief Justice of India is a title given to the top post in the Supreme Court of India. Indian judicial system is famous for being very sluggish in dealing with cases. A lot of time is taken before the judgment day comes. There is a need for the new Chief Justice to do something in this regard and make the judicial course a bit faster.
