Kaasi movie review:
The film begins with Dr. Bharath (Vijay Antony), who plays four roles which differ only in the looks, a doing well cardiothoracic surgeon in the US, coming to know that he is adopted. He realizes that he has to travel to India to find answers to a terrible thing that haunts him and follow down to his real parents. In India, he learns that his real name is Kaali and that his mother’s name is Parvathy. He goes to her village to find his father, whose identity is mysterious. Does he find him? The hard work of Kaali and Gopi (Yogi Babu), a villager he befriends, to find out who among the villagers could lead to some minor comedy. Some of it is derivative, but it is also amusing, with Yogi Babu scoring with his one-liners. it is difficult to predict where the story is head and that is the only thing that keeps us watching. But otherwise, things are underwhelming. Kaali’s search is hardly convincing.
We get a scene where Kaali and Gopi get the village chief, Periyasamy (Madhusudhanan), high to find out if he could be the father. And when the guy starts narrating his story, we get Gopi’s thoughts of this character’s romance with Vijay Antony playing the younger version. You are left scratching your head at how this adds to the plot. A romantic song in this film only adds to the length. When the second half begins, we realize that Vijay Antony appearing as the characters who are the ‘suspects’ in each of their romantic stories. ‘Kaali’ gets interesting in its second half, but the narration should have been tighter. Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi deserves credit for attempting a concept that has so far mainly been used to narrate an emotional drama. But with the reason behind Kaali’s search for his parents not being really strong. In the end, we will be left with some interesting remarks like few characters such as RK Suresh’s negative role, frequent in all the three stories, the reason behind the separation of the real parents. But they are not enough to entirely recover the film.
Positives:
Kiruthiga udhayanidhi concept
Interesting negative roles
The action of the lead roles
Negatives:
Second half narration
Underwhelming Scenes
Weak Narration
Allindiaroundup rating: 2.5/5

Final verdict:
Nothing more about the film. The movie lovers can watch it for once just to kill their time…
