Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara’s Response On Bengaluru Molestations Left Twitterati On Fire

The New Year celebrations in Bengaluru turned out to be a nightmare for the women. A throng of men emerged on the MG Road and Brigade road, mobbing the revelers and ‘mass molesting’ women in street on Thursday.

Around 1500 police personnel were deployed in the area, but the number of people gathered for a celebratory cause outnumbered them. Amid the widespread outrage, the state home minister stoked a controversy by blaming the youths’ “western ways” for the incidents.

Home Minister Parameshwara About The Incident:

Speaking to reporters, Home Minister Parameshwara said, “It is not good. We will look into it and see that it is not repeated.”

Speaking to a TV channel, he said: “As I said, unfortunately, what is happening is a large number of youngsters gather on days like New Year on Brigade Road, Commercial Street, M G Road. Youngsters who are almost like westerners, they try to copy westerners not only in mindset but even the dressing. So some disturbance, some girls are harassed, these kinds of things do happen.”

Molestation Incidents “Happen” Says G Parameshwara:

National Commission for Women chairperson Kumaramangalam said: “Such remarks from the minister are unacceptable and regrettable… He should apologize to the women of the country and resign”.

The Minister’s statement drew furious reactions from people. They called it ‘insensitive’ and ‘shameful’. Here are some of the reactions from twitter.
