Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered down abundant promises to the Kashmir state during his highly speculated trip to Srinagar on Saturday. Prior to the much-hyped trip of PM Modi to Kashmir, there were anticipations by the wide political class that his visit would address the issues of the of justice and political aspiration in the state while such things couldn’t happen. Although PM Modi declared an economic package for the state.

Mufti Sayeed Ignored by PM Modi During his Visit to Kashmir

Though Jammu and Kashmir were in need of the economic package which has been announced by PM Modi while perhaps the state and its chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed were expecting something more. The declaration of the economic package could solve some of the issues of the state pleasing the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister while there are any other issues to be addressed by the union government which were neglected by PM Modi.

While during the visit of PM Modi, Mufti tried to fine-tune his views to please the people of the Jammu and Kashmir synching with the leader of NDA. As the state politics of Jammu and Kashmir ruled by the virulent retentions wherein a systematic manner there has been a degradation of  dignity, human and political rights for the people.

People of Kashmir were outraged to see Mufti Sayeed being allied with the BJP party which is backed by the rising intolerance over the Muslims across the nation with Hindutva card across the nation by the right wing groups such as RSS. Following the promises and concern of PM Modi, one could only say that he sees nothing more than a peaceful pleasure ground for tourists.

Despite positioning his stance with the Vajpayee’s symbolism of “Jamhooriyat, Kashmiriyat and Insaniyat” (Democracy, Kashmiri ethos and Humanity), PM Modi has failed to let in all-inclusive ideas of justice, the principle concern and the core of the Kashmiri political aspiration. During his address to the rally in Srinagar Modi said, “I wish to see Kashmir again as that destination of every average Indian traveler who always dreamed of enjoying “service and hospitality” by its people.” Kashmir has always lost its beloved ones as the engine of violence between the gap of patronizing Modi or New Delhi union government and the need, struggle of Kashmiris.

Gap Between Kashmir and Government at Centre

A conspicuous disparity between centre and Kashmir state was one of the main cause behinds and took the issue to the occurrence of “Million March” which was held by the separatists. This resulted to further violence with the firing of non-lethal weapons and tear smoke canisters. An elderly man who had been through the grief of the violence said something which would certainly draw the attention of people. He said, “Listen, son, I’ve no love for these cartoons. But I was checking on these political jokers for one more, perhaps last time if they’ve any sense of duty or affection left in them.”

He further added, “I got the final-final confirmation from none other than India’s prime minister today.” Here is a story of the border area in which he lives which has been narrated by the very same old man.

Here goes the story like this,

“I knew an army colonel and would once in a while be invited to visit him in his camp. One day I spotted a few Kashmiri men with unkempt beards and fearsome looks taking a nap in the camp lawns. I asked the colonel who the men were, thinking they have arrested militants.”

To which the officer said that they were counterinsurgents, Ikhwanis, who had outlived their utility for the army. The elder man asked colonel said, “What is going to happen to them now. These men betrayed their own people. How can they be trustworthy for us? They will go to hell!” When asked about the moral of the story, the elderly man said, “Didn’t you hear Modi saying he doesn’t need anyone’s advice on Kashmir. India will do what it wants here, India will never ask us.”

Kashmiris and the people of India should know that apart from being bestowed with the special economic package by the PM Modi, it has also been imparted violence’s to the state. Yet another young Kashmiri engineering student was killed in the violent activities which were unaddressed by the PM Modi immediately his departure from Kashmir.
