Photos go viral for various reasons on the internet. Some are funny, some are sad, but all elicit an emotional response. Proving just that, an image of a 9-year-old boy studying on the streets at Philippines have recently gone viral, and it’s for all the right reasons.

They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ But when I looked at this picture, I was speechless. This picture describes humility, dedication, and determination of a little boy for his study.

This picture of a 9-year-old boy studying on the street in the Philippines fetched the attention of many people around the world who came forward to help him.

College student Joyce Torrefranca, who took the photo, was inspired by the boy, and millions of others agreed.

She clicked this heartbreaking photo while returning home at night in June 2015. Girl captioned the picture as “I got inspired by a kid”.

The Image shared by Joyce Gilos Torrefranca went viral on the internet. 

The picture showed nine-year-old named Daniel Cabrera studying at a makeshift table using light from McDonald’s restaurant as a lamp on the street in the Philippines. Soon this picture became a source of inspiration to many people around the world.

Netizens tried to find out information about this studious little boy of the Philippines. 

Media succeeded in finding the information of Filipino boy and his family. Daniel Cabrera stays in a makeshift home with his family near to McDonald’s restaurant where he studies every night.

Daniel goes to school and does his homework every night next to McDonald’s, but his mother wouldn’t be able to afford his high school education.

Daniel’s mother Christina Espinosa earns less than $2 a day.

She explained, “He is a very studious and determined boy… He would insist on going to school even without his lunch money because I have no money to give. He always tells me: ‘Mama, I don’t want to stay poor. I want to reach my dreams.’”

Some generous people came forward to fund the high school education of Daniel Cabrera.

 

Strangers started offering scholarships to Filipino boy to continue his education and fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer.

Despite media coverage, Filipino boy remained focus in his studies.

Filipino boy also received school supplies and a new solar lamp so that he can study comfortably at his home.

McDonald’s restaurant also came forward to help Daniel and also funding the education of other homeless kids in the Philippines.

The fast-food restaurant promised to provide the free meal to Daniel’s family for a year. The students of Daniel’s school will be benefitted by Ronald McDonald ‘Read to Learn’ program. More than 400 students, including Daniel’s brother, received reading kits from the company.

Filipino boy received a SCHOLARSHIP for high school education from McDonald’s.

Kenneth Yang, McDonald’s Philippines president explained, “As Filipinos, we are proud to meet a boy so determined to succeed in life. It is with an open heart that we grant him a scholarship to help him achieve his goals.”

The simple photo of Daniel Cabrera helped in changing the life of many homeless kids in the Philippines.
