Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha Adjouned Amid Protests Over No-Confidence Motion Notices

New Delhi: Parliamentary proceedings came to a standstill after ruckus was created by the movers of no-confidence motion against the Central Government mainly by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). As a result, for the 11th consecutive day, parliamentary proceedings were disrupted, both in Lok Sabha as well as in Rajya Sabha, on Monday. The speaker adjourned all proceedings as a result. This happened within minutes after the beginning of the session.

At first Lower House had to be adjourned after the ruckus created by both the Telugu parties viz,. TDP and YSRCP.

Monday’s Lok Sabha session was marked by loud protests and sloganeering and as a result the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced about the resuming of session proceedings on Tuesday.

Among the parties that took part in the noisy protests were TDP, YSR Congress, TRS and AIADMK. They all raised many important issues like banking scam and special status for Andhra Pradesh.

As soon as the Question Hour begin by the announcement of Speaker Mahajan, these all parties’ members started their ruckus holding placards and raising slogans of “We want justice”. But the MPs from TMC and Congress were just standing at their seats.

Due to the continuation of the protests, the house had to be adjourned till noon withing few minutes of session beginning.

And before the House was to reconvene, MPs from TRS demonstrated outside the Parliament holding placards with the script “One nation, one law”. This was to demand an increase in Telangana’s reservation quota.

And after the Lower House resumed its proceedings at 12 pm, the parties like, TDP, AIADMK MPs could be heared sloganeering, “We want justice”. But despite that, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan began the day’s business and asked ministers to lay papers on the table.

And as the protest continued to grow louder, Rajnath Singh spoke to the House and assured that the Central Government was ready to involve in a discussion about no-confidence motion and other issues. “We want a discussion on the issue of no-confidence motion and we appeal to everyone that there should be discussion. We are ready to discuss any issue with any member,” he said.

After this, Speaker said that she had received the no-confidence motin notices and she bounded to introduce the matter. But she asserted that this can be discussed only if the House was in order and requested all the MPs who were protesting to have their seats so that it can become possible to count a quorum of 50 members to put the motion to a vote.

But as she was saying this, the shouting became louder and louder which forced Mahajan to adjourn the Lok Sabha till Tuesday.

The scene same in both the Houses since 5 March, when parliament members met for the Budget Session after recess.

In such a noisy scenerio, the House passed the Finance Bill and the appropriation bills last week without holding discussions over it.

Without any discussions, Rajya Sabha too was adjourned.
