The Mumbai Indians started the season with a defeat to Rising Pune Supergiant. Since then, they have stitched together five consecutive wins – each one of them coming in run-chases. Having played three matches in five days – which included an away match in Bengaluru, they came back from a break strongly by defeating KXIP at Indore. The team will be recharged and motivated to extend their winning streak.

Batting – Nitish Rana is the Mumbai Indians’ top run-getter and the leading contender for the orange cap for MI. The team has given the left-hander the crucial number three position ahead of Rohit Sharma, and the youngster has responded with half-centuries on most occasions. MI will hope the 23-year old can continue to score runs through the rest of the season. The return to form of Rohit Sharma – who was dismissed for single-digit scores in the first four matches – augurs well for MI too. Among others, keep an eye on the Pandya brothers – who can come up with something magical on the field. A special mention must be made of the opening combo of Patel and Butler. They have demolished every opposition in the first 6 overs and gave MI the perfect platform to finish off the chases.

Bowling – Harbhajan Singh’s economy rate against left-hand batsmen this season reads an impressive 4.84. Jasprit Bumrah has been exceptional with the ball this season especially at the death. Malinga had an unforgettable outing against KXIP thanks to Amla. He would be eager to get back his rhythm. MI will have to find their discipline against a young and vibrant DD batting unit.

Delhi, after they failed to chase down a modest 158 against RCB, came back very strongly in their next two outings. When Sanju Samson registered his maiden IPL century, DD registered its highest victory in terms of runs against RPS. When their overseas batters led from the front they made 188 on a slow and wearing Delhi pitch and tumbled Punjab for 137. This is a side with the least experienced batting unit. Yes, it’s a young batting side but extremely powerful with all of them finding form in the 3 matches. Each match had a different batting hero for DD and that will surely please Dravid in the dressing room. But after that, they had to suffer losses against two quality sides of KKR and SRH.
Batting– When it was a valiant Rishab Pant who refused to give up on a losing cause against RCB in their 1st game, it was Sanju Samson smoking a 100 and Chris Morris making a mockery of RPS bowling in their 2nd. That is not the end, their international picks Sam Billings and Corey Anderson showed their prowess with valuable knocks in their 3rd outing against Punjab. Mathews selection and promotion up the order against SRH raised few eyebrows, so we can expect Corey Anderson to takes his position this match.
Bowling– Led by the wily Zaheer khan, DD has been a disciplined bowling unit. Amit Mishra and Shadab Nadeem have been very clinical with their spin bowling. Morris and Pat Cummins have been absolutely professional by picking up wickets at the right moments for DD. But the talking point has to be Zaheer Khan who seemed impressive with the new ball. All in all a solid bowling unit this that can defend modest totals quite well.
