Modi To Meet British PM Theresa May, Queen Elezabeth In UK, To Hold Top-Level Meetings
London: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the UK for a four-day visit here after a very busy day in Stockholm (Sweden) where he attended ten high-level meetings in ten hours. PM Modi is in London to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting or CHOGM and will have bilateral as well as multilateral meetings with different heads of states attending the meeting. At last, he will have a top-level meeting with Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May as well as a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace.
Prime Minister Modi was received by Britain’s foreign secretary Boris Johnson at London’s Heathrow airport. When asked to comment over the visit, he said that he felt excited about the ties growing on a bilateral level. He also said that the visit by PM Modi would also help build on “huge economic advantages”.
“..thanks to our shared history, we have a living bridge between us, and now we want to build on the incredible tech sector where both India and the UK are making giant strides together,” Mr Johnson said in a statement.
The first day in the UK will keep Modi busy all the day. His official meetings will start with the bilateral meeting with British Prime Theresa at 10 Downing Street. A wide range of issues is planned to be discussed to enable a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including cross-border terrorism, visas and immigration.

A MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on the return of illegal immigrants will be renewed officially to take into account biometric and other developments in the field. The past MoU expired in 2014. There will be about nearly a dozen agreements across different sectors that will be signed between the two countries.
After all these official meets, PM Modi will then go to the Science Museum in London to pay a visit to the ‘5000 Years of Science and Innovation’ exhibition where he will interact with Indian-origin and other scientists and innovators based in the UK. The event will be hosted by Prince Charles and will include the launch of a new Ayurvedic Centre of Excellence, with the target to create a first-of-its-kind global network for evidence-based research on yoga and Ayurveda. The Ayurveda Centre of Excellence in London has been established at the University of Westminster.
The Indian Prime Minister will also welcome the United Kingdom into the International Solar Alliance as its newest member. After this programme, PM Modi will attend a special technology event hosted for him by Prince Charles. The ‘Tech Summit’ is just a part of India-UK bilateral ties.
