Mumbai: Fake Police Officer Arrested After Duping A Rape Victim Of INR 6 Lakhs

Police Report: In Mumbai, a 42-year-old man was arrested after he tricked a rape victim and portrayed himself as a Police officer. Officials said that the man received Rs. 6 lakhs from a rape victim to register a rape case.

The 42-year-old man has been identified as Uttam Horambare, he was arrested by police officers of the Shivaji Nagar Police Station a couple of days ago after the woman who he scammed filed a complaint at the Shivaji Nagar Police Station.

Police officials said that the rape victim moved to suburban Andheri in 2017, she got married in 2007.

In the complaint that was made by the victim, she said that her relative raped her more than once since 2013, the relative also threatens to reveal her nude pictures that he took without her consent. The woman moved to Andheri in 2017, but the rapist blackmailed her and continued to harass her sexually.

After getting fed up by the rapist, the rape victim decided to approach an NGO activist whose name is Nafisa and asked her help for filing a complaint and case against the rapist.

Instead of taking the woman to the police station, Nafisa took her to a fake police officer who demanded Rs. 6 lakh to register a rape case against her relative. Horambare and the victim usually met outside a police station.

The rape victim told the police officers that she paid INR 6 Lakhs to 42-year-old Uttam Horambare just to register a case against her relative.

After 42-year-old Uttam Horambare kept on delaying the case registration by giving out reasons, the woman realized that he was scamming her.

The woman registered a police complaint in the Shivaji Nagar Police Station last week, acting upon the complaint, the police officers arrested 42-year-old Horambare just a couple of days after. The police are still trying to track down Nafisa and the other relative of Horambare.
