Noida: 28-year-old Man Arrested In Dowry Case After the Death of His Pregnant Wife

Police Report: On Monday, a 28-year-old man was arrested in a case that highlighted dowry harassment after his pregnant wife died in Noida, his wife was 25-years-old.

The man has been identified as 28-year-old Mukesh Kumar who is originally from Bihar and was staying Bishanpura which is located in Noida, Mukesh and his wife Madhu were married last year in June.

The police said that “The woman was pregnant and not being taken care of by her husband and in-laws. They were instead harassing her for dowry.” The police also cited a complaint that was registered by the cousin of Madhu.

In the complaint it said that the family of Madhu received a phone call on 16 February from their in-laws who said that 25-year-old Madhu is ill and they are planning to take her to a hospital that is located in New Delhi.

The police official said that: “When the family reached the hospital, they were told by the doctors that she was dead.”

The family of Madhu filed a complaint against 28-year-old Mukesh Kumar, his sister, and his brother. A FIR was charged under the IPC sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 304B (dowry death) and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

The police added that Mukesh Kumar was brought to a court on Thursday, the court has remanded him to a judicial custody.
