Not Able To Go With Its Allies In Madhya Pradesh For Assembly Elections, Congress Finds Friendship In Tribal Group

Gwalior: Even if Congress is not getting political support from Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati in Madhya Pradesh, the party has got hopes to form alternative political alliances just more than a month ahead of the state assembly elections on November 28. The party is hoping to secure an alliance with the Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) at a time when the list of candidates are under finalization stage. The tribal group is has a good stronghold over the state’s tribal belt.

“It is not closed yet,” Congress campaign committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia told News Agencies. The Congress leader also confirmed that the Congress party had already talked to Mayawati for an alliance after she announced that her party was not seeking alliance and would go alone in the coming state elections.

Remarkably, the Samajwadi Party had announced that it will form an alliance with GGP just after party chief Akhilesh Yadav said earlier that they were not going to wait for the Congress to come out with pre-election alliance.

“We did speak to Mayawati. However, they have decided to move ahead on their own and that’s fine with us,” Mr Scindia told News Agencies on the sidelines of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s tour at the Chambal-Gwalior region.

The Congress leader asserted that any kind of alliance is formed after keeping certain objectives in mind, the most important of them is the ouster of the ruling BJP government. “Our difference in vote share is 8-8.5% while the BSP has 6.3%. According to our calculations this time, there is massive anti-incumbency against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and that will work in our favour,” he added.

But the parliamentarian leader from Guna denied about any bad relations between the Congress and the BSP. “We will meet to talk another day. Striking an alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is possible,” he claimed.

Mr. Gandhi, who is currently on a visit to the Madhya Pradesh state for the coming general elections, has been launching frontal attacks against the government at the centre lead by the BJP. He is trying to leave no stone unturned, which includes the Rafale fighter deal, growing unemployment rate and the ruling party’s alleged hate politics among others. The Congress Chief had yesterday also said that he would stop opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi if he takes steps to stop “dividing” the country and begins to lend support for the poor.
