Ola, Uber Drivers To Go On Indefinite Strike From Sunday Midnight

Are you planning to book an Uber or Ola tomorrow for your travelling? If so, this is a bad news for you. Causing a frenzy for the cab operators as well as drivers of both ride-hailing companies, both Uber and Ola have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from the midnight of March 18.

The strike from both the companies is organized by Maharashtra Navnirmal Vahatuk Sena and the strike will be observed in major cities like Hyderabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi etc.

Sanjay Naik from Maharashtra Navnirmal Vahatuk Sena said, “Ola and Uber had given big assurances to the drivers, but today they are unable to cover their costs. They have invested $7691-$10,767 (INR 5-7 lakh), and were expecting to make revenues of $2307 a month, but are not able to make even half of their target, owing to the mismanagement by these companies.”

In a recede development, the Maharashtra government has planned to bring a private cab aggregators Ola and Uber under the city taxi norms. If this happens, the companies would have to use the CNG as the fuel to curb pollution.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote earlier informed about this during the supplementary queries in the Legislative Council over the auto-rickshaws and taxi drivers who often carry an arrogant attitude tone in Mumbai.

The transport Minister added that their government is working on addressing the passengers’ problems and complaints and said that they will implement the various government measures to curb this.

Major cab aggregators like Ola and Uber always look for funds from the foreign backers, and they have been trying to make a profitable front. This only happens when the fares are increased, which means the incentives of the drivers will be decreased.

Amid all this, the strike that is being organized by Uber and Ola which can cause hassle in the public transport system of the cities tomorrow. However, we will have to see if the strike affects the cab-hailing companies enough to give in to the demands of the drivers.
