Pakistani Media Take On Uri Attack:

The News International:

The News International said that the military camp was attacked by “militants” in Uri. The newspaper included Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement on Pakistan along with Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s. It further added that Pakistani security officials were confident that the Uri attack was “Pathankot-like stage drama to trumpet its terrorism mantra against Pakistan…” The story further said that the military brigade headquarter was chosen deliberately because of its Sikh-dominated population which would help in antagonizing the Sikh community from supporting the Kashmir struggle.

The Express Tribune:

The Express Tribune reported that the Indian officials had jumped the gun in blaming Pakistan for an attack that killed 17 of its jawans. The newspaper also included Pakistan Defence Minister Khawja Asif’s tweet that said: “Don’t rule out inside job to malign Azadi movement by blaming Pakistan.” It further added “brazen militant attack near the LoC had triggered a “verbal spat” between New Delhi and Islamabad escalating the tension between the two “bitter and nuclear-armed” neighbors.

‘India always blames Pakistan’ Says Dawn:

The front page of the Dawn newspaper covered the attack and touted Singh’s attack on Pakistan as a “vitriolic assault.” The lead article said that “India regularly accuses Pakistan of arming and sending the militants across the LoC to launch attacks on its forces.” The newspaper also dedicated an editorial column to the Uri attack and noted that the “Indian authorities’ accusations against Pakistan have plunged Pak-India relations into a dangerous and unstable new phase.” It also quoted Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson saying, “Pakistan is always blamed for any untoward incident in India.”

“In a highly volatile environment – Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who had a fractious visit to Islamabad in early August, has publicly called Pakistan a “terrorist state” ” Dawn wrote. The Karachi newspaper said further that “the Uri attack could catapult the Kashmir dispute to the forefront of global issues that will be discussed in New York.”

“While Mr Sharif was in any case expected to strongly reiterate the Pakistani position on Kashmir, the decision by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to skip the session means a potential high-level clash has been averted,” the editorial said.

Pakistan Observer:

The Pakistan Observer reported that “four heavily-armed suspected militants” killed 17 soldiers in an army base. Rejecting “baseless allegations” from India, the newspaper quoted Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations saying that “no infiltration is allowed from Pakistani soil because water-tight arrangements were on both sides of the LOC Working boundary all along.”
