Coimbatore: Parasailor Falls To Death From 50 Feet After Buckle Gives Way

Indian Aero Sports and Science Club and Coimbatore Government Medical College conducted a parasailing event at Codissia on Sunday morning as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the medical college.

The paragliding event turned fatal for 53-year-old Malleswara Rao in Coimbatore after he allegedly unlocked Parachute’s buckle while he was still flying. A 53-year-old man fell to death from a height of around 100 feet barely 53 seconds after he had taken to parasailing.

The victim, Malleswara Rao of KTVR Residency at Duraisamy Layout in Peelamedu, who deals in foundry materials, was the second person to take to parasailing shortly before noon. The club organizers collected Rs. 500 from each person who wanted to parasail for 20 minutes.

After examining Mr. Rao, doctors declared him brought dead. A doctor said the victim had sustained fractures on his skull, spine, hip, knee and ribs. Later, the police registered a case against them under Section 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code.

Club director ‘Glider’ Babu told police that Rao had unlocked the parachute while flying and fallen on the ground. Rao, who sustained severe injuries, died on the spot. The dead body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. This is the second adventure sport enthusiast to die in action on air in western Tamil Nadu in recent years.
