IRCTC Booking: Passengers Can Now Book ‘TATKAL’ Tickets And Pay Later

It’s a good news for the persons who book IRCTC tickets at the last minute.

According to the latest reports, the last minute Indian Railways ticket booking is said to become more convenient for the passengers. Earlier, when people book a ticket on Tatkal quota, they had to pay money via online at the time of booking the ticket before the portal confirms the ticket.

But now, passengers can book tickets on Tatkal quota on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC) website and pay later. From now, for Tatkal tickets, IRCTC users will be able to pay via cash, debit card or credit card by opting to have tickets delivered at their doorstep, said IRCTC payment provider Anduril Technologies.

As people are facing a lot of transactions failures at the time of booking, IRCTC took this step to avoid such problems.

IRCTC processes 130,000 Tatkal transactions daily. A majority of these tickets are booked within minutes of the quota opening. The new feature eliminates the transaction failures as often the money gets debited and the ticket is not issued due to multiple reasons. The refund cycle is about seven to 15 days.

Anurag Bajpai, CEO at Anduril Technologies said, “Pay on delivery for Tatkal tickets is going to be a huge benefit to for millions of train travelers who need to book under the tatkal quota. The option to book first, pay later will find significant adoption among users. This move by IRCTC also aims to encourage people that buy tickets off the Railway Reservation Counters to move to online medium.

How The New Feature Works?

At first, the customers need to register with irctc.payonlinedelivery.co.in in order to avail the ‘Pay On Delivery’ option. The customers also need to tender either Aadhaar or PAN details at the time of registration.

Step-1: While booking the ticket on IRCTC portal, the user needs to choose the ‘pay-on-delivery’ option.
