PM Narendra Modi Pauses His Speech In Navsari On Hearing The Azaan, Resumes After It Ends

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed a few mega rallies in Gujarat, in a high-geared election campaign in Saurashtra region. He was there as part of BJP’s final campaign push ahead of the first phase of Gujarat assembly polls.

Modi stops his speech during azaan

While addressing a rally in Navsari, Modi Ji halted his speech midway as he heard the Azaan, the Muslim call for prayers, playing from a mosque nearby. Even thousands of people who had gathered there waited for the Azaan to complete.

Resuming his speech after the Azaan ended, he said, “Azaan(call to prayer) was on, there shouldn’t be any problem in anyone’s prayers because of us, that is why I paused for few moments.”

Stepping up the election campaign in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the Gandhi family and hit back at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on the GST. He also lashed out against the ‘hypocrisy’ of the Congress President over his visit to the Somnath temple.

He stated that Jawaharlal Nehru, Rahul Gandhi’s great-grandfather, was “unhappy” when Sardar Patel took up the temple’s reconstruction in the 1950s. Meanwhile, Prime Minister received a pleasant surprise in the rally when a little boy dressed like him came up on the stage to greet him. The Prime Minister spoke to him and even taught him how to greet the audience the way he does.

What’s surprising is this act comes in sharp contrast to the BJP candidate list which does not include even a single Muslim.

This is not the first time that the Prime Minister has halted his speech to let an ‘Azaan’ from a mosque get over. In March 2016, while campaigning for the BJP in West Bengal’s Kharagpur, the Prime Minister halted his speech for a while until the ‘Azaan’ was over. He had some water from a glass and waited for about three minutes or so without saying anything.
