Rahul Gandhi Accuses PM Modi Of Betraying Indian Masses After Hollande’s Remark On Rafale Deal
New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday over the burning issue of Rafale deal and alleged that he had betrayed the Indian nation and dishonored all its soldiers. The remarks come after the former French president Fancois Hollande reportedly gave a contradictory statement against the Indian stance.
The French publication quoted Mr. Hollande that France did not have a choice when the Indian government proposed the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence as the partner for Dassault Aviation for the Rs. 58,000 crore Rafale jet fighter deal.
Finding this opportunity to be the right time to attack the central government after the remark by former French President, leaders from various parties including Congress, the Left, and Aam Aadmi Party launched their scathing attack on the government.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “The PM personally negotiated & changed the Rafale deal behind closed doors. Thanks to François Hollande, we now know he personally delivered a deal worth billions of dollars to a bankrupt Anil Ambani. The PM has betrayed India. He has dishonored the blood of our soldiers.”
The Rafale deal seems to be the main target of the opposition Congress party as its chief Rahul Gandhi is seen making remarks regarding the deal regularly by alleging corruption and cronyism in the system.
“In the NDA-negotiated Rafale aircraft deal, we have got no aircraft, we have got only lies. What is the new lie that the government will put out in response to Mr. Hollande? Defence Minister has been called out again! This time by then President of France, Mr. Hollande,” Congress leader P Chidambaram said.
There was no response officially, by the ruling BJP over the remark by the Congress leaders. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence said in a tweet that it is in the process of verifying the “Hollande’s statement that GOI insisted upon a particular firm as offset partner for the Dassault Aviation in Rafale”.
“It is reiterated that neither the government of India nor the French government had any say in the commercial decision,” it added.
The general secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sitaram Yachury accused the central government led by the BJP party of lying to the people regarding the deal along with misleading them as a result.
“This Rafale deal is a scam if there was one. The Modi govt has lied and misled Indians. The whole truth must come out now. Why was the Indian government batting for one corporate house with no experience in defence manufacture?” Mr. Yechury tweeted.
Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party too took a jibe at Prime Minister Modi and asked the prime minister to admit the wrongdoing.
“The country wants to know the truth. Complete truth. Everyday Indian government’s comments are turning out to false. People have started believing that something bad has really happened. Why else the government will lie every day,” he tweeted.
