Child marriage is an age-old custom followed in Indian countrysides which have been happening since the inception of the history. This is undoubtedly one of the biggest social evils we need to get rid off. There have been some disastrous incidents in which young ladies committed suicides as they are not ready for the knot.

After all, though the government is coming up with series of schemes to fight this off, parts of villages, especially in Northern India are totally unaware of negligent of this rule. Now, after a while, this young lady from Rajasthan has daringly come forward, fought against everyone in a legal way, in Jodhpur’s court. Let us walk-in to her story.

Susheela, the now over 20-Year-Old woman is making news since two years for all good reasons. She was married off to Naresh who belongs to her locale when she was just over 12 years.  As per the old rules, she lived with her parents until she was 18, next after turning 18 years, Susheela was sent to her mother-in-law’s house. Though her whole family was celebrating this, Susheela, on the other hand, was interested in studies which she was very good at.

With a sheer will and lots of guts, she ran away from her home just before the night of her being penned off to mother-in-law’s house. It was on April 27, 2016, she packed off the basic iterneries and headed to the Jodhpur. She stayed there along with her friend Keerthi Bharathi who was a Child Welfare Committee member. After a while, Susheela left her place joined Rehabilitation Center.

After going through certain legal procedures, she went forward and filed an appeal to the high court to reject her marriage as she is 18 and a major. Soon after appealing for the confiscation, she was asked to share the proofs of her marriage which she doesn’t have. Having no proofs, Susheela had to hustle towards the court in various possible ways which went on for the following 15 months.

Finally, after a lot has happened. Susheela obnoxiously acknowledged the pictures of her marriage shared on Facebook by her husband, she hurriedly marched to the court, submitted them and won the battle against all the odds.

Staying in Jodhpur itself, she is now studying well to achieve her dreams, Susheela dreams of becoming a Police Officer. After all such uncommon battle she won, it is pretty clear that she wins this too. She is the kind of woman India needs to move forward and look for.
