RIP Pyarelal Wadali: Loss of the ‘Kaafi’ sung true
Popular Sufi Singer Pyarelal Wadali, the young sibling among the Wadali Brothers duo, died in Amritsar on Friday. Pyarelal Wadali was the younger brother of Puranchand Wadali, who was also a singer. According to the reports by IANS, Pyarelal Wadali has died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital.
“Saddened by the demise of Shri Pyarelal Wadali. His renditions attained great popularity globally. His work will continue to draw people towards the joys of Sufi music. May his soul rest in peace,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
Bollywood celebrities and singers Daler Mehendi, Harshdeep Kaaur, Richa Sharma and others have expressed their tributes on Twitter.

What water to fish #WadaliBrothers is to Punjab, posted Daler Mehndi. Wadali Brothers had performed at several shows in India and also in many countries. Bollywood movie Pinjar in 2003 was their first film in Hindi.
Tu mane ya na mane dildara from the album Farid, is one of their famous songs, released in 2004. They are also credited for various Bollywood songs like Aye Rangrez Mere (Tanu Weds Manu, 2011), Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi (Mausam) and Teri Dua (Hawaizaada).
They were late bloomers, having gone through rough struggle. As the story goes, they were turned back from the Harballabh Sangeet Mela at Jalandhar in 1975 because of their jagged appearance but were spotted by an All India Radio producer and gradually started giving programmes on Jalandhar Doordarshan. Fame came to them in the mid-90’s when one of their qawwalis was included in a Punjabi film.
The Wadali Brothers Puranchand Wadali and Pyarelal Wadali belong to a village in Amritsar district. News agency IANS has reported that they are the fifth generation of singers and musicians in their family.
Pyarelal Wadali is survived by a wife, two sons and three daughters.
