Sania Mirza And Rohan Bopanna Said Some Pretty Brutal Things About Leander Paes On Twitter
It’s been more than a month that the Rio Olympics have been over but, it seems battle lines are once again drawn between India’s star tennis player Leander Paes and the mixed doubles duo of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna.
Leander Paes raised questions over Olympic selection stressing that India didn’t send the best team for the last two Olympics.
Paes has gone on record to attack the decision in the media, before and after the Mirza-Bopanna duo failed to win a medal at the mixed doubles event.
Minutes after losing his doubles in Davis Cup World Group, tennis legend Leander Paes went to the post-match press conference and complained about the decision again.
“I can very, very clearly say that the past two Olympics, we didn’t put the best teams forward. This Olympics – the mixed doubles – was a huge opportunity. What more does a man have to do than win four Grand Slams in fourteen months. There was no more tournaments to win, I could not create any more tournaments. Sad, Long story short, let’s nurture these kids,” Paes was quoted as saying.
To nobody’s surprise, Paes’ comments have been publicly and vociferously slammed by Sania and Bopanna. Both the tennis players took to Twitter to take a dig at Paes, without actually naming him.
Sania, Bopanna hit back after Leander Paes criticizes Rio Olympic team selection
Hours after ace tennis player Leander Paes raised questions on India’s tennis team selection for the last two Olympics, world No.1 in women’s doubles Sania Mirza, hit out at him, apparently calling him a ‘toxic person’.
The ONLY way to win with a toxic person, is not to play!!! #karmaiswatching #zenmode ??

Her partner Bopanna too joined the offensive against “toxic” Paes by retweeting Mirza and adding his own thoughts.
At it again!! …the usual ploy to stay in the news by slanging fellow players in media. #Patriotism

Paes is yet to respond to the tweets.
This isn’t the first time that the Paes vs Bopanna/Sania cold war has dominated the headlines. Even before the Rio Games, controversy surrounded the partnering of Paes and Bopanna for the mens doubles event. Bopanna, among the top 10 ranked players in the world in men’s doubles, had earned a direct entry to the Games, while Paes did not.
