Sharing Of ETA Via Google Maps Now Available On iOS With Facility To Share Location Via Third Party Apps
In March last year, Google introduced real-time location sharing feature on its Google Maps to provide your live route sharing and ETA with your near and dear ones easily. The feature was intended to allow the sharing of your current location with people of your choice, which enabled them to track your movement in real-time. And now the tech giant is making more improvements to the feature to introduce the feature of ETA sharing with iOS users as well. Google has also come up with support for third-party apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and more as well to share trip progress with contacts. All these features can be availed through the latest update to Android and iOS, and users can download them through Google Play store and App Store with out any cost.
When you get your app updated with the latest version, all you need to do is start navigation and tap on to the ~CHECK~ button and then press ‘Share trip progress’. The procedure will help to share your location on live basis or real-time basis with any of users from your contacts. The feature also allows the user to see your route and ETA in actual real-time. The sharing will end automatically once the journey is over and the directions too get closed by Google Maps. Apart from that, the Journey sharing feature can also be used for driving, cycling and walking navigation with today’s update.
Moreover, Google notes that Google Maps also allows you to share live location link through any third-party apps also. The feature is available on both the Android as well as iOS platforms. “Today’s update also allows for sharing across 3rd party apps like Facebook Messenger, Line, WhatsApp, and more-so you can communicate with friends on the platforms you prefer. Once your journey ends, you’ll automatically stop sharing your location,” Google’s product manager Samuel Mclean notes on the blog of the company.
Earlier this month, Google introduced a new tab ‘Commute’ on Android and iOS, and the said update was done only after this to help users ‘take control of their daily commute.’ The new feature of Commute tab allows users one-tap access to live traffic and transit information with personalization to the daily commute of the user. Users will be able to see if the commute in the day will be normal, and will give suggestions to alternative routes in delay cases. But Android users may rejoice for having additional feature over iOS ones – they can see delay and disruption notifications while being en-route.
