Shiv Sena Calls Retaining Of Manohar Parrikar As Goa Chief Minister “Cruel and Inhuman Politics”

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena, BJP’s ally at the central and state level, has launched an attack at the party for retaining an “ailing” Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Minister of Goa, despite the fact he was not fit for the post. The Shiv Sena said that the move exposes the “cruel and inhuman politics” of the BJP and alleged that the party fears that it might lose the state as its hold.

The Shiv Sena further claimed that there was “anarchy” in the coastal state in Manohar Parrikar’s absence and said that the party was unable to come up a second to Mr. Parrikar in order to replace him with anyone “suitable” for the top post.

As of now, the 62 year old Goa chief minister is said to being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi as he is suffering from a pancreatic ailment.

“(Manohar) Parrikar is not in Goa. He is undergoing treatment for cancer at a hospital in Delhi. The state administration is in doldrums in the chief minister’s absence,” the Sena claimed in an editorial in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.

The editorial said that the government is not treating the matter with justice which is affecting the chief minister himself apart from the state of Goa. “Forcibly thrusting the post on him is cruel and inhuman politics,” it said.

The party, led by Uddhav Thackeray claimed that the BJP wants more time by retaining Manohar Parrikar so that it can go along with the 2019 Lok Sabha elections well.

“Stress is not good for his current fragile (health) condition, but who will explain this to the BJP high command? They are more scared about losing the state than Parrikar’s health. Their motive is that Goa should remain on the winning map of the BJP,” it said.

Any chief minister and his cabinet colleagues do not work for the party, but to make the state progressive, said the Sena editorial, which is an ally at the Central and state level politics.

On Sunday, BJP president Amit Shah had said that Manohar Parrikar would not resign from his post and would continue.

The poor health of Mr. Parrikar has sparked speculation whether would he continue as the chief minister of Goa or not. Most recently, Amit Shah sent a political team from the central party leaders to the state of Goa to speak to allies and know the realities on the ground.

The opposition Congress has said that the political grounds in the state are not at all well and sought for a confidence vote in the Assembly.
