Shiv Sena Lashes Out At Proposed Goa Cabinet Meet With Hospitalized CM Parrikar In New Delhi

Panaji: Commenting over the issue of Goa cabinet ministers being called into the hospital to hold meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the Shiv Sena lashed out at the issue on Friday and said that not just the state cabinet but the whole Goa Assembly should be shifted and organized in the AIIMS in New Delhi where ailing Chief Minister is undergoing treatment.

The comments were made by the state President of Shiv Sena Jitesh Kamat soon after he held a meeting with Goa Governor Mridula Sinha seeking the dismissal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition government and dissolution of the state Assembly.

Mr. Kamat spoke to the media here and said that the governance in the state of Goa has come to a standstill due to the fact that Manohar Parrikar is lodged in a hospital in the national capital to undergo treatment related to advanced pancreatic cancer that he is suffering from.

“Why just the ministers, the Goa Assembly should be shifted to the AIIMS for functioning. It is a matter of shame for Goa that cabinet meetings are being held in hospitals now,” Mr Kamat told reporters.

Mr. Parrikar has been reported to have received a schedule to meet his cabinet ministers on Friday at the Intensive Care Unit of AIIMS and is said to be allotting additional portfolios to them after one-to-one discussions.

Mr. Parrikar is also slated to meet members of the core committee of the BJP unit for the state.

“We have demanded with the Governor that she not only dismiss the current Parrikar-led government, but also dissolve the Assembly to end the impasse and provide relief to people,” Mr Kamat added.

There have been questions raised by the opposition in Goa over the current stability of the government due to the fact that Mr. Parrikar is ill now. All the legislators of the Congress numbering 16 met Governor Mridula Sinha on September 19 and sought for a floor test by the BJP-led government, soon after the 62-year old Chief Minister was admitted to AIIMS.

Goa Deputy Speaker and BJP lawmaker Michael Lobo said in a statement to News Agencies last Friday that the state administration has completely collapsed due to the absence of Mr. Parrikar from the state. But the key ally of BJP, MGP rejected all such claims of government’s instability and said that his party is ready to face mid-term elections in event of Assembly being dissolved.

The BJP party has got a total of 14 lawmakers on the floor of 40-member Assembly, and has been governing the state with the help of alliances with MGP, the GFP, the NCP and three other Independents.
