A horrifying case of abuse against minors surfaced yet again where a teacher in North Kashmir district of Baramulla allegedly raped and impregnated a Class 11 student.

Senior Superintendent of Police Syed Imtiyaz Hussain said the incident came to light when the alleged rapist took the girl to a hospital in Pattan town for medical termination of her pregnancy.

“Doctors at the hospital got suspicious and contacted the father of the girl, who lodged an FIR with the police. The accused was immediately arrested,” Hussain said.

The girl is a Class 11 student and is 17 years and 10-months old.

As per officials the teacher is posted in government middle school Kreeri and the girl is living in her neighborhood.

“The girl is his neighbor and used to go for private tuitions to the teacher from the past many months. The girl is otherwise studying in another school,” an official said and ruled out any role of school in it.

Meanwhile, sources said that as the issue came into light, the family of the girl asked the accused teacher to marry their daughter.

“They have performed Nikah function and got the duo married to each other,” sources said.

They said the family of girl have taken an amount of Rs. 1.50 lakh, two rooms of house, one kanal of land and one shop from the groom,” the sources said.

The incident had shocked the Valley following given the involvement of a teacher in such an unbecoming incident.
