Past few weeks there has been a lot of conversation running about a ‘Mahagatbandhan’, that is going to take place between the two opposition parties BSP and SP. According to the sources, this grand alliance will come into action somewhere in 2019. Besides that, it is absolutely clear that there will be no pan-India coming together of all non-BJP parties. According to this, in each state, there will be forces combined against BJP, like Trinamool Congress in West Bengal or the Congress in Rajasthan and will end up as the primary competitor to the BJP. But this can be cleared only after the election that whether in each state there could be the coming together of all parties at the national level.
Regarding the ‘Mahagatbandhan’, one of the govt officials said that “It is not one party but an alliance, and a truly important one, which is taking shape as the primary challenger to the BJP. It is the BSP-SP alliance in Uttar Pradesh”.
In UP Mahagatbandhan, is not one party but it is the most important alliance, which will act as the primary challenger to the BJP. Not many of the people in Uttar Pradesh would have ever expected such a grand alliance of the two major opponents the Samajwadi P, arty (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP). But to make a political survival for both the parties against BJP has brought together Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati.

The initial steps for this grand alliance between BSP and SP were taken in Gorakhpur and Phulpur, by-elections in which the BSP supported SP candidates, though the initial steps were on fire in the Kairana bypoll in which both, either directly or indirectly, extended support to the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate. Both the parties sooner or later came to realize that they can benefit each other through an alliance and so the seeds for this grand alliance aka “Mahagatbandhan” were laid in Gorakhpur and will be in front of us in 2019.
Though the great grand alliance is onset for 2019, it still has some big challenges like,
The alliance has several challenges: deciding on the outline of a common campaign, exact seat sharing and ensuring the transfer of the votes of their supporters to the candidates of the other party.
Besides these challenges, there is one thing for sure and that is, This grand alliance could exactly define the nature of the 2019 campaign and outcome.
