Thieves Drill Hole To Steal Rs 5.75 crore From RBI’s ‘Money Train’ In Chennai
In a shocking robbery incident, soiled currency worth Rs 6 crores were stolen on Monday night. In the incident took place when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was transporting soiled currency notes worth Rs. 342 Crore in more than 220 carton boxes from Salem to Chennai.
When the train arrived at Egmore station in Chennai, the thieves discovered that there is money inside the train and then damaged with and by drilling a hole through the roof of the coach. Hence, they fled away with some money.
According to the police, a few lakhs of rupees could have been robbed during the transfer. The railway officials are the one who confirmed the incident.
In a statement, they said “Rs. 342 crore was carried in 226 boxes. Of them, 2 boxes found to be tampered with and money was spilling out and point of entry found to be a hole made through the roof of the train coach”.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is currently conducting the investigation.
