This ‘Trash Dove’ Meme Has Taken Over The Internet, And Here’s The Actual Reason !!

The internet is a massive playground of everything strange and wonderful. The secret reason for bringing overnight fame as well as in degrading one’s reputation. Anything can catch the fancy of the Internet. Here is a new visitor and latest obsession in social media.

You would have recently seen a lot of dove-like bird banging its heads on your Facebook timeline. A strange purple bird who seems to be tripping. Officially termed as the ‘Trash Dove,’ this little bird was created by Florida-based artist Syd Weiler on 31st January 2016, as a part of a series of stickers.

We dug and found out what was the new meme that the internet was fantasizing and seems that we have got the theory solved. The dove could also be used as emojis and netizens have been spamming people’s Facebook timelines with the head banging bird. Trash Dove is a Facebook sticker which has spread like wildfire over the internet, mainly in Asia.

On the back of this popularity, the bird was hijacked by several users and was used to spam the comments section of several FB posts.

That’s what the ‘Google Trends’ graph for ‘Trash Dove’ looks like since the spamming started. While some internet memes have been meaningful ones, others grab attention for no reason and go viral all over the world.

Some say that the dove represents ‘friend-zoning’ in Thai culture and is going viral around the Valentine’s Day.

A Reddit thread discussing this viral bird theorized several possibilities for its virality. One of them, Haruhanahanako, claimed that the dove represented ‘friend-zoning’ in Thai culture. Another, WariReku, simply suggested that the bird was so annoying that it proved the perfect symbol for internet spam. And soon after its Thai popularity boom, the Dove soon infected the internet all over the globe.

The top is of course still Thailand, but from the map we can see that the Trash Dove has more or less conquered most of the developed world. Twitter was quick to make memes out of it and we have got a compilation for you.

Here are some of the memes generated with Trash Dove:

Syd Weiler took to Facebook to thank her fans for all the support and enthusiasm.

There are many more Trash Doves which all doing diverse business from eating bread, being lovestruck, eating donuts or pizza, etc. Honestly, while sometimes internet memes have a deep and meaningful backstory behind them.
