Turkish President Erdogan Calls Israel World’s Top ‘Most Fascist, Racist’ State
Ankara: The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called Israel the “most fascist, racist state” in the world as a comment over Israel’s parliament passed a new law which defines the country as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
“This measure has shown without leaving the slightest room for doubt that Israel is the world’s most Zionist, fascist and racist state,” Erdogan said in a speech to his ruling party.
In what seems to be one of his toughest recent onslaughts against the “Jewish homeland-Israel”, Erdogan claimed that there was “no difference between Hitler’s obsession with the Aryan race and Israel’s understanding that these ancient lands are meant only for Jews.”
“The spirit of Hitler, which led the world to a great catastrophe, has found its resurgence among some of Israel’s leaders,” he added.
More than six million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust by the Nazis while the World War II was going on.
The legislation to make Israel a Jewish Homeland was adopted after a tumultuous Knesset session under which Hebrew was elevated as the national language and terms the establishment of Jewish communities as being in the national interest.
Arabic was considered an official language and after the legislation, it was granted only special status.
The issue has become a new source of tension for already soured Israel and Turkey relations, one of the Jewish state’s few key Muslim partners.
Last May, Ankara directed Israel’s ambassador to leave Turkey over the killing of protestors along the border with the Gaza Strip.
The strained relations have threatened a 2016 deal on normalizing of ties after the crisis sparked by the May 2010 deadly storming of a Turkish ship by Israeli commandos.
The President of Turkey who got recently re-elected with executive powers considers himself to be the champion of the Palestinians and has twice recently held summits of Muslim states to denounce the recognition by the United States of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
But according to the analysts, both the countries maintain strong economic ties with trade robust and both sides interested in the export of Israeli energy resources to Turkey.
As per the statistics, there is 17.5 percent of Arab citizens in Israel’s population. They have all along complained of discrimination.
Many of these Arab Israelites were specially invited to live in Israel by the government. An extensive interview conducted by Al Jazeera with these people brings forth the details of Israeli government’s bias towards its Arab citizens.
