Twitterati Takes It Hard As Mumbai Airport And Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Get Renamed Again

In India, one of the biggest states is Maharashtra and it is a place where most farmer’s suicides take place. But the state government has more important issues to focus on. Recently, the Maharashtra Cabinet decided to add the title ‘Maharaj’ to both names, saying the warrior deserved more respect.

On December 8th, the Maharashtra cabinet renamed the Mumbai international airport as Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport from Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

Not only that, even Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus i.e. the CST station is being renamed to Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

On Thursday, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis took to Twitter to make the enlightening announcement.

The cabinet explained the decision was made because the Maratha warrior king deserved to be paid more respect. The move has, however, drawn mixed reactions. While some people have pointed out that frequent change in names is expensive as it costs the public money, others hoped that with the change in names, there also came better facilities.

Here’s how Twitter users reacted to the announcement:
