[VIDEO] Do You Know What happens When You Deep-fry Water?

If there’s one thing anyone could bet that it is absolutely impossible to fry, it’s water. But that hasn’t stopped somebody doing it. Deep-fried water came into existence at this year’s ‘Stupid Shit No One Needs And Terrible Ideas Hackathon‘, an event in the San Francisco that brings together creative individuals and has them create completely bullshit items.

In a very fitting submission for this event, Jonathan Marcus of Massachusetts made groundbreaking strides in the field of deep frying, becoming perhaps the first person ever, to deep fry water.

Marcus employed the technique of frozen reverse spherification, in which you submerge a liquid with calcium content in a bath of sodium alginate (which coats it in a thin layer of gel).

Watch how Jonathan Marcus deep-fried water here:

Warning: This is dangerous. Seriously, do not attempt this without proper safety precautions.

What you get at the end of it all is water trapped inside a gel membrane.

Method: Encase the water within the calcium alginate membrane, gently roll it in flour, eggs, and Panko crumbs, and then gently place it into a deep fryer. The result is fried ball. After that, you take it out, let it cool, cut open, and slurp that deep-fried water.

On his YouTube page, Marcus warns: “This is potentially very dangerous. If water leaks out while the sphere is frying in hot oil, it may explode sending scalding oil everywhere. Do not attempt without proper safety precautions. Do not consume until cooled down or you may get burned. Also, they don’t taste particularly good. You have been warned.”

Definitely, definitely don’t try this at home.
