Want To Be The First To Buy 5G Smartphone? Get Ready For A Lenovo Snapdragon 855 SoC With 5G Tech
It was 4G fever rising and picked up after the Jio launch in India, but the next-generation 5G cycle is already picking up speed in the United States, with many smartphone makers trying to fill the market with 5G phones. As per the announcement made by Lenovo Vice President Chang Cheng, the company had confirmed that Lenovo will be the first such company to launch a 5G smartphone powered by the new processor Snapdragon855 SoC. The news comes soon after tipster Roland Quandt hinted that the company is mass producing Qualcomm chip since June. If this is going to be the truth, then we must expect first phones with the new Snapdragon 855 chipset to be launched by the end of 2018 or early 2019.
The Vice President of Lenovo posted on Weibo that the company would become the first to launch a 5G supported smartphone along with Snapdragon 855 SoC. But, Cheng has not unveiled any timeline as of now for the launch. As mentioned earlier, the new chip is expected to arrive later in 2018 or at an early time of 2019. Therefore the smartphone could also be unveiled around that time only.
However, if seen from the past, Cheng is not seen in a positive way due to his exaggerating claims in the past. With the launch of Z5, Cheng wrote exaggerated teasers ahead of the launch, by claiming notch-less display, a great and mammoth battery and many more. But, the Lenovo Z5 proved to be a dampener when it was at last launched with a display notch and a 3300mAh battery. As a suggestion, we recommend you to take all his such announcement with a pinch of salt.
Leaving aside Lenovo, many other companies such as Oppo, Huawei, and Oneplus have also started working on 5G smartphones. An official announcement confirmed that Huawei will launch a 5G technology based smartphone in the third quarter of 2019, while Oppo announced that its partnership with Qualcomm earlier this year for 5G phones next year. Another company, Oppo, has also confirmed that its flagship product for 2019 will be 5G compatible and rumors too suggest, that Samsungs’s Galaxy S10, a flagship product, will also offer 5G connectivity.
After all these, Vivo has also put up plans to launch the company’s 5G-capable smartphone next year as well by using Qualcomm’s X50 5G NR modem. Other such companies that have already partnered with processor maker, Qualcomm, for 5G modern include Xiaomi, Nokia brand licensee HMD Global, Sony, LG, and ZTE.
