The most fundamental need of a human is water. This is the reason that when we try to find out life on other planets, we search for water first. For every person on this Earth, there is at least a requirement of 20-50 liters of clean, safe water per day for the purpose of drinking, cooking, and simply to keep themselves clean.
Some people take think that polluted water is being dirty, but the truth is that it may even be deadly. According to statistics, about 1.8 million people die every year due to diarrheal diseases like Cholera. Many millions of them fall ill due to some serious sickening by water-related ailments, out of which many are easily preventable.
According to the United Nations, universal access to clean water is one of the basic human right. It also forms an essential step to improve one’s living standards all over the globe. Where there water scarcity, we can find that the people there too are poor that too for generations.
When children are sick due to water uncleanliness or unavailability, education sector suffers because of it. And as a result there are less economic opportunities due to illness and the time-consuming process to fetch or get water as it is not available easily. Children and women are the people who suffer the most due to such burdens.
Water forms the main component in hydration of our body and also for food production. But along with that water also helps us maintain sanitation. Due to lack of water, there can be no proper sanitation in the area resulting in diseases that robs people their basic human dignity.

As said earlier that United Nations and other organizations give an estimate of the requirement of water for every person and that is access to a minimum of 20 to 50 liters of water per day for different purposes like drinking, food preparation and maintaining personal hygiene.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and various national agencies have come up with drinking water quality standards that specifically say the acceptable microbial, chemical and radiological characteristics of safe drinking water.
If water is contaminated due to excessive amounts of microbes or chemicals derived out of human and animal wastes, agricultural runoff, natural pollutants and industrial chemicals, then it becomes unsafe to use it for drinking purposes and cause water-related diseases. The main thing is to protect the water sources and if that is not done, then the quality of drinking water suffers.
