What else is the Government going to Ban after Banning Porn Websites?

The government of India has banned access to at least 857 websites it considers pornographic. By order no. 813-7/25/2011-DS (Vol.-V), the department of Electronics and Information Technology has asked the Department of Telecom to notify internet service providers to block access to 857 URLs, under the provision of Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 as the content hosted on these websites relate to morality, decency as given in Article 19(2) of the Constitution of India.

Websites were reviewed by the Communications Ministry and “were found to be spreading anti-social activities” and letters were sent to ISPs to block them under the section 79 of the IT Act, according to a report in Hindustan Times. Meanwhile, director Ram Gopal Varma has come against the sudden ban and tweeted his thoughts.

If the Government of India banned porn, it should ban these as well.

1.Erotic  scenes in Mythological textbooks

For instance, the story of Ahalya talks about how a beautiful maiden was deceived to have sex with someone other than her husband. The poem in Rig Veda dedicated to the love that Yami (Yama’s twin sister) had for Yama, shows how the concept of incestuous relationships existed since ancient times.

Another story from Indian mythology is of Devi Chhinnamasta (meaning ‘she whose head is severed’). She is seen standing on a copulating couple with her head severed and jets of blood flow out. On either sides, two female figures are drinking from those blood streams. According to the Pranotasani Tantra, Parvati went to have a bath and got sexually excited and turned her back to her two female attendants who were extremely hungry and begged for food. The maternal Goddess, guilt stricken, severed her own head with her nails and offered them her blood. This shows that the theme of female sexuality and masturbation were pretty popular in early texts.

2.Erotic sculptures at Temples

We have nude sculptures in erotic postures in Khajuraho & elsewhere. We have nude gods sculpted in Hoysala temple. I would like to remind everyone that none of these are true. Khajuraho, Hoysala temple sculptures do not depict the gods and goddesses. They are demi gods (like angels for instance) meant to convey a few spiritual points.

3.Kamasutra:

The Kama Sutra  is an ancient Indian Hindu text widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior in Sanskrit literature written by Vātsyāyana. A portion of the work consists of practical advice on sexual intercourse. Believed to be written by saint Manu, Kamasutra is a widely referred textbook abroad. Since watching porn and talking about sex are apparently a sin in India, all available editions of Kamasutra should be banned and any re-prints should not be allowed.

4.Item songs In Film Industry:

Almost in all the movies in Indian film industry now have at least one item song. It is sure to have a scantily dressed woman dancing to raunchy numbers, with very suggestive lyrics. She is ogled and touched inappropriately by men. Unfortunately, these songs which can easily categorized under soft porn become really popular. Why aren’t these being banned?

Apart from these things we do have B graded movies, Racks of roadside Adult magazines and also Stores that sell porn video CDs and DVDs openly are also aplenty. Why is there no ban on these businesses?
