Do You Know What Will Happen To American President’s Twitter Account Now?
Republican Candidate Donald Trump has taken an unassailable lead against Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton to become the 45th US President. Let us congratulate him for becoming the new US President. But what happens to the presidential (Obama) Twitter account (which, at last count, boasts 11.1 million followers) as Barack Obama was the first US president on Twitter, but he won’t be the last. So do you ever wondered what happens to the Presidential Twitter account ” @POTUS ” now?
Obama’s was the first official to embrace social media, launching a booming online presence that covers Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumble, Medium and other platforms, but will POTUS 45 have the same massive social media following even after Obama? What happens to tweets which have tweeted by Obama?
According to the officials, all of Obama’s 317 tweets will be archived by the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) under the new handle of @POTUS44. A similar fate will be fall all the other White House Twitter accounts, such as Michelle Obama’s @FLOTUS and Joe Biden’s @VP. The same will also be true for Obama’s Instagram and Facebook accounts. Thousands of photos and hours of video clips of the current president will also be archived and, eventually, made available for people to download.
The 45th US president will receive the handle @POTUS45, with a clean slate without the previous @POTUS tweets.
As for Facebook and Instagram, the White House username, URL, and followers will be owned by the new president. The same pattern will follow for the vice president and first lady’s social media accounts. Other digital projects, like WhiteHouse.Gov and petition platform “We The People”, will have their content archived by NARA but will be made available for the future office holders. However, Donald Trump has 12.8 million followers on twitter.
