WhatsApp To Introduce ‘Vacation Mode’, Linked Accounts Feature
While WhatsApp was in news over its efforts to curb the circulation of fake news, now the company is trying to improve the experience of the end user by adding some more new features. Recently, the messaging platform introduced Picture-in-Picture mode for Instagram videos and another one, a ‘Swipe to Reply’ gesture feature to its users of Android devices. And now, the company is in news about its plans to introduce a Vacation Mode, along with “Linked Accounts” feature. Moreover, WhatsApp already seems to have changed the notifications handling feature for muted chats.
According to the report by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for Android platforms has included a new feature of “Silent Mode” that provides the option to hide notification dots for muted chats. This implies that whenever you mute any chat on WhatsApp, you won’t be able to see how many new messages were received through that chat directly from the WhatsApp icon on your Android smartphone. Earlier, muted chats’ notifications were also counted in the total count of unread messages. As per the report, the new feature is already said to be enable by default. But there is no option available under the Settings menu and thus you cannot disable the feature by yourself if you wish to go back to its old behavior.
Moreover, WABetaInfo reports that the company is about to reveal a “Vacation Mode” and as of now its in testing mode. The feature will also turn an archive chat into archive automatically even if new messages arrive into that chat and thus remains muted. Presently, a new message received in a chat automatically unarchives an archived chat in WhatsApp. The same behavior will become controllable through the Notifications settings on WhatsApp for iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone. WABetaInfo has given some clues over the upcoming feature by showing a screenshot that seems to be taken on a build of WhatsApp for iPhone.
Apart from that, WhatsApp is also said to be developing a Linked Accounts feature that will allow users to link their account with external services. As of now, the option seems to be focused for Business version of WhatsApp, but it could be extended to reach the standard WhatsApp version too. As per the report, the Linked Accounts options will be listed under the Profile settings on WhatsApp and will initially support Instagram as an external service.
The user will be required to insert his/her credentials once a time by tapping the Instagram listing from the Linked Accounts option. This will enable linking of the user’s WhatsApp account to your Instagram profile.
The feature of Linked Accounts may be mainly to help WhatsApp users to enable the recovery of password of other Facebook services.
