Lucknow: There seems to be something wrong with the political equations in Yogi’s Uttar Pradesh. The news of Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati sacking a senior party leader, Jai Prakash Singh, over the issue of making disparaging remarks against the top brass Congress President Rahul Gandhi has just started doing the rounds for a while that the same top leader from BSP has made another controversial remark over the Ram Temple issue.

He questioned the politicos over the finding of merit in pursuing a religious matter instead of solving major problems like unemployment.

“There are lakhs of Ram temple in this country. Even we believe in Lord Ram. But if another Ram temple is made, then will your children get jobs? You can beg in the name of Lord Ram, but you can’t ask for a vote,” Mr. Singh said at an event held in Lucknow, according to news reports.

The case regarding the Babri Masjid-Ram Temple land dispute is slated to be heard on July 20.

“People of my community, please tell them that you can take Ram and give the government to us then we will show you how to run the country. There is nothing in this world without politics,” Mr. Singh added.

Hours before his controversial statement, Mr. Singh was ousted from the post of BSP vice-chairperson after he asserted that Rahul Gandhi is not suitable for the post of prime minister.

The remarks were made by Mr. Singh at a meeting to discuss strategy for Madhya Pradesh elections slated to be held in December and the 2019 national election. But what is more curious is that the boss was not present in the crucial meeting.

The comments made by Mr. Singh can be heard in a video telling a gathering of BSP workers: “A boy can either look like his mother or father. If Rahul Gandhi had been like his father, then he could have made it in Indian politics. But he is more like his mother (Sonia Gandhi), who is a foreigner. He has foreign blood. I can guarantee that he will not be a success in politics.”

The controversial statement by Mr. Singh comes at a time when Mayawati is trying to negotiate complex talks with the Congress party to forge an alliance in state elections to be held later this year. And simply put, it infuriated Mayawati and found it better to remove him from the post and the party. In May this year, the top brass of BSP chief was seen bumping heads and holding hands with Rahul Gandhi’s mother Sonia Gandhi which was termed as a very rare public display of affection. The event was related to the swearing-in ceremony of HD Kumaraswamy for the post of Karnataka chief minister.
