Hyderabad: Two Workers Died As Slab Of Under Construction Building Collapses

News, Hyderabad: On last Sunday, Two workers died and 14 others were injured when a two-storeyed under-construction building of the Film Nagar Cultural Club collapsed in upmarket Jubilee Hills of Hyderabad.

“Today at around 11 AM, when work was on to lay slab, it suddenly broke down and fell on the workers. At least 12 labourers were working when the slab collapsed and two of them were buried alive,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Venkateswara Rao said.

The under construction building is located beside Filmnagar Cultural Centre (FNCC) and the construction was reportedly taken by FNCC itself.

A rescue team from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation immediately plunged into action and rescued 14 construction workers trapped under the debris and rushed them to the nearby Apollo Hospitals.

Police, GHMC and NDRF(National Disaster Response Force)  personnel were involved in ground operations throughout the day to clear the debris.

The deceased were identified as Anand and A Shaikh (both aged between 28 to 36), Assistant Commissioner of Police Uday Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his shock over the incident and offered condolences to the family members of the deceased and also directed the officials to provide free medical treatment to the injured.

Hyderabad Mayor B Rammohan, who rushed to the site along with his officials, said the construction was illegal and action would be taken against the builders after an inquiry.

“According to our information, there was no permission for the construction of the building; so, it is an illegal construction. We will conduct an inquiry and take appropriate action against the builders for taking up the construction without permissions,” he told reporters, announcing an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
