Yamaha Stops YZF-R15 V2.0 Sales In India

Yamaha Motor India has decided to stop YZF-R15 V2.0 in the country just six months after the company started the sale of YZF-R15 V3.0 this year. The company has experienced one of the most successful sales for Yamaha R15 due to its performance, technology and design as the third generation version marks its own level of quality. As now the updated version has been fielded into the market, the company has decided to discontinue the previous version of R15 V2.0. But, the company will not stop selling of the R15S (Version 1.0) along with the Yamaha R15 V3.0 which has got the design and engine of the old style that too with a lower price tag as well as a single-piece seat.

It’s not strange about the method by Yamaha to sell both the old as well as new products side by side. But the company utilized this methodology of selling both styles for its models which are more popular in the product line-up in the past as well. The bike Yamaha FZ FI 2.0 was launched back in 2014 and was being sold in the market along with its past models of FZ-16 and FZ-S models. But later on, the first generation versions were stopped being sold in the market as soon as the demand for fuel-injected FZ 2.0 versions increased as the time passed.

The first time of launch for Yamaha YZF-R15 in India was nearly a decade ago and the bike redefined a cost-effective performance motorcycle in the 150 cc segment. Since then, the dynamics of the bike improved and the R6 inspired styling still remain in its latest form. In the first generation of R15, there was only a single seat, but the later one being V2.0 which was launched in 2011 came with a split-seat setup, a better in sharpness tail-end and a meatier rear tyre. As the demands from buyers grew for the first generation R15 in 2015, the bike was re-introduced into the Indian market.

The Yamaha R15 V2.0 was Rs. 9000 cheaper with a price tag of Rs. 1.18 lakh compared to the R15 V3.0. When the bike is compared to the Yamaha R15 S, the latter is priced at Rs. 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and that counts for a substantial difference over the V3.0. And now, with both the first-generation of R15 and the latest R15 V3.0 up on sale, Yamaha has got a wider opportunity to cater for broad customer base in the 150 cc segment with the R15S still being followed by its loyal fans. Spare parts to is not an issue for existing customers on the R15S and R15 V2.0.
