24 YO MBBS Woman Becomes Youngest Sarpanch In Haryana

Women have proved themselves to be equal to men many times, and sometimes even better in many tasks compared to their male counterparts in every part of life. Be it with sharing the responsibilities or at handling career, women are picking up the pace with men at lightning speed.

The situation is not the same in many parts of the country. There are many people in rural India where women still have to fight to get the basic rights or representation. Girls are not allowed to study and are still taught only to do the specific traditional gender roles. But, positive changes are happening and good things are bound to happen.

Shahnaz Khan, a 24-year-old female MBBS student is elected as the Sarpanch by the villagers of Garhazan in Bharatpur. She is the youngest Sarpanch of the Mewat region, and not only that. She is also the most educated woman in the history of Garhazan.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Shahnaz is a medical student at Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College and Research Center in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. During the day of the election, she was appearing for her 4th-year practical MBBS exam.

When asked about the elections, she said, People in Mewat area don’t send their daughters to schools. I will present before them my own example to show what education can do for a woman.”

Shahnaaz has plans for higher studies at Gurgaon, but she is confident about managing her studies with her political career.

Hanif Khan, the grandfather of Hina Khan was the previous sarpanch of Mewat, who was whose election was declared void after the court ruled that he forged the educational qualification documents. He was the sarpanch for 55 years and Shahnaz’s parents are involved in politics.

Shahnaaz says she has plans to spread the awareness about sanitation and hygiene to prevent diseases and save lives. “For instance, people here die of tuberculosis. The disease can be cured with a six-month course but people are unaware.”

Shahnaaz is not only creating a history and carrying her grandfather’s legacy but also creating history and inspiring women of our country.
