Sunny Leone’s New Contraceptives Advt Relating It To Navratri Evokes Outrage On The Internet And Gujarat
After being stuck on the legal issues for sharing the pictures of her daughter on social media, Sunny Leone this time faced the wrath of netizens for being promoting the contraceptives during the traditional Hindu Navaratri festivals. The billboard featuring Sunny along with the product has roped in some serious issues for everyone.
Regarding the same, the Confederation of All India Traders has sent a letter to the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan seeking a ban on an advertisement of Manforce, a contraceptive company. Billboards featuring Sunny Leone on an advertisement of Manforce condoms were spotted in Surat and have now become the area of contention altogether.
The letter addressed to the Consumer Affairs minister read:
On the billboard, it was written in Gujarati, “Play, but with love, this Navratri” in which Sunny is dressed in traditional attire. The ad infuriated many people who immediately deemed it immoral and a cheap promotional tactic, many even took on to their Social media handles thrashing the company.
After all the legal procedures, a police complaint was lodged by Dharmesh Gami, the president of Bhartiya Gauraksha Manch.
Satish Sharma, the commissioner of Surat Police ordered the removal of all the ads. Meanwhile, Gami in an interview said, “The hoardings of condom company with the message having double meaning had the photo of Sunny Leone. It has hurt our religious sentiments. Navratri is our religious festival and it is the Gujarati tradition of playing the garba.”
He added, “We will make representations to municipal commissioner, against the agency who had got the license of putting hoardings at different places and take legal actions against them.”
On the other hand, Twitterati didn’t leave a stone unturned in taking digs at the cheap tactics of the company, protests are carried throughout the vital areas in the city.
Signed by National Secretary General of CAIT Praveen Khandelwal, the letter accuses Sunny Leone of being irresponsible and of going to “any level irrespective of pious and religious occasion of Navratri” to earn money.
The CAIT is urging the minister to take immediate cognizance of this advertisement and “direct the concerned officials to ban the advertisement and take appropriate action against the manufacturer and its brand ambassador”.
