[WATCH VIDEO] An SUV Driver Was Arrested For Refusing To Give Way To Ambulance In Kerala, But Comes Out On Bail

Humanity is a virtue associated with basic ethics of selflessness. There are some people who must be taught a lesson about ‘Humanity’. The Kerala Police just did that.

In a shocking incident in Aluva, Kerala, an SUV driver had deliberately blocked the way of an Ambulance which was rushing a newborn, who was battling to breathe, to a hospital. In the video, we can see the SUV in front of the Ambulance not giving the way and it continued for 3 km.

Blocking the way to Ambulance

The Aluva Police detained the driver of SUV after he willfully blocked the path of an ambulance carrying a newborn to a hospital. The motor vehicles department (MVD) had identified the owner of the car as one Nirmal Jose.

“The MVD has registered a case against the driver under Section 184 (Dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police have filed a case under Section 279 of IPC (rash driving). His car has been seized and will be produced in court. We will move to revoke his license,” Aluva Circle Inspector Vishal Johnson told.

Blocking Ambulance

Jose is accused of blocking the path of the ambulance for nearly three kilometers while driving through the city causing valuable loss of time for the ambulance driver. The ambulance was taking a newborn baby, who was struggling to breathe, from a hospital in Perumbavoor on the outskirts of the city to the Kalamassery Government Medical College on Tuesday.

“When it reached near Rajagiri Hospital at Chunangamvely, a car came in front of us blocking our way. The driver didn’t allow us to overtake the car. The lights and sirens were on and despite repeated honking, he refused to allow us to overtake him. He continued to obstruct our way till the Cochin Bank Junction, almost a 4km distance. From the junction we took a left turn, while he went straight,” the ambulance driver told.

“Normally, it would take 15-20 minutes for an ambulance to cover the distance between Perumbavoor and Kalamassery. On Tuesday, it took almost 35 minutes. Still, we managed to drop the baby and the mother at the medical college before its condition further deteriorated,” he added.

Visuals from the ambulance dashboard camera showed the SUV driver refusing to give way to the emergency vehicle despite excessive honking and wailing of the siren.
